Those are Hi-A. That was the early name for Bartolini.

thanks GrooveWarrior!
those are humbuckers, right?
tricky question, maybe... do you know which pu (of the actual bartolini range) could sonically resemble this hi-A pu best? thanks again.

I'm not sure. I would email Bartolini and attach that picture and ask them. Their website isn't real helpful with that kind of information.

Yeah, this is what it says:

We hope to reopen email communication as early as possible in 2005 .

For a company with so many pickups on the market, that has to be the absolute worst web site ever. Try emailing these guys:

There were a few different models of Hi-A pickups. Some had one coil per string. Others were humbuckers.

I had this one in my Rickenbacker

I bought this new in 1976. This is a "mini beastie", which was a mini humbucker with 4 conductor wiring. The Beast was a full size humbucker with multiple taps.

I just installed a set of M45CBC soapbars in an ESP bass today (with OBP-3 preamp) and they sound pretty much like the old Hi-A pickups I used in my Rick.

Probably any of the CB series would do it

Bartolini, in spite of a web site that is pretty poor, will respond to email. I emailed them in 2006 to inquire about Bartolini MK1's and they did reply.

thanks guys. your information is very helpful, as i'm trying to put together a paul jackson "signature" p-bass at the moment. love the sound of his modded p on "black octopus" or "funk on a stick".
i'm considering this... http://www.bestbassgear.com/bartolini-w4-pickups.htm
