who has altered the guts on a modulus vj?

I recently got myself a VJ4 off of ebay after the one I was gassing for on the TB boards was sold. The one I have came with a Bartolini active preamp with NTBT tone system; active bass and treble.

I don't like the 'glossed over' sound that Bartolini's provide. If I want to 'produce' my bass tone I'll do it with an amp. Has anyone succeeded in finding a good active/passive preamp/p'up replacement for these basses?

I'm debating one of the Aguilar OBD systems, but before I shell out a ton of money I wanted to ask you all.

so to sum it up, what do you suggest for an active/passive switchable preamp and new pup's for this VJ4?
