Who has replaced their HZ's for Barts?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

What guitar did you swap them out of? Please describe the results (good or bad ). I'm having a love/hate relationship with the HZ's in my Schecter Elite-5. First off the output is low. With the neck and bridge blended, it is quite nice (especially slap sound) ,however when I solo either the neck or bridge, it sounds a bit empty with little warmth. I play in a top 40 rock band. we do anything and everything thats been a popular radio hit from the 70's to today.

thanks

I did replace the HZs on my Elite 5 with Bartolini M45CBC pickups.

I felt like the pickup change did warm up the tone of the bass some, but I was expecting a more dramatic change in the tone than what I got. I ended up trading the bass, but if I kept it, I was going to change the pre amp in it to a Bartolini pre amp. http://www.bestbassgear.com/bartolini-preamp.htm

Tell you what I did with my Elite 4...

I discovered that my HZs were the 4 wire type. I added coil tapping push/pull pot on the volumes to isolate the outer coils of each pickup and that bad boy came alive!!! By the way, I discovered the outer coil placement match the placement of a Fender Jazz! I am so impressed that I just picked up another set of them for $40!! This little known secret is worth a million bucks!! Don't give up on the HZs until you try this!!!

Thanks,

KT

I had been using my USA Peavey Millennium 5. so when I had the chance to trade the schecter or another Millennium 5 I jumped on it.

Hey, is there a way to just "hardwire" it that way without the push/pull?

thanks
