Who makes a good OBP for a P-bass?

I love the tone of my P-bass but sometimes I have some trouble cutting through in the mix (I compete with 2 marshall half stacks). I figure an on board preamp would give me a bit of a better edge. I was wondering who makes a good active preamp. I see most of them cater to jazz basses. I'd love one with a bypass switch. Thanks in advance.

I like to utilize an Aguilar OBP-1 when a request comes in for adding a pre to a P-bass. This preamp, a little constructive wiring, and a Nordstrand NP-4 is the total deal IMO.

The small size of the OBP-1 makes it the perfect choice to hide away on a P

all the best,

R

Unfortunately, Raven Labs went out of business a while back. They made a wonderful P-Bass Retrofit Preamp called the PBR-1, and if you can find one, I recommend trying it out. Really add a bunch to your tone without taking away the Precision-ness.

But the OBP-1 is also a great preamp, I love the 2 band, but it'll require the addition of at least one knob and may involve moving the output jack to the edge of the bass.

if you do the upgrade right, your P-bass will retain its two knob + jack look ... you will be required to place the stock pots with a different type, though, and the mono jack will get swapped out for a stereo

if you do a search, you'll see I posted a thread about this very topic several months back

all the best,

R
