Why is it humming loudly?

Can anyone tell me why there is a ridiculous amount of hum coming from my bass. Its not the amp I have tested it. Here is a pic of the wiring




it is grounded at bridge but it like BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZes real loud.

You have a ground wire disconnected somewhere in the signal path, or you have the hot and ground mixed up somewhere.

And don't forget to ground the copper foil!

That photo is too out of focus to be any use.

Solder one end of a wire to it, and solder the other end to ground. Just having foil that's not grounded doesn't provide any shielding, and will actually increase the noise.

But that's not your problem. Check your wiring carefully. You have something wired wrong. Either something is not grounded, like a wire from the pickups or the pots, or you have the hot wire as ground, and the ground as hot going to the output jack. Check the way the output jack is wired. It might be backwards.

Those two situations will make a loud hum.

it would seem apparent that the ouput jack is the most likely.
