Why are the mm pickups on newer models different?

Why is the shape of the humbucking pickup in the new multi-pickup MM's different? Doesnt that make it a nuisance for replacing pickups/pickguards etc..? Or am i missing relevant information?

they're different, probably because the new pickups are consistant across models (bongos included)...and they look better

and YES, it is a nuisance for replacement...it's not hard, though...all that has to happen is PU makers need to have a suitable cover made...the demand isn't there, yet...

so....SUFFER! BWA-HAHAHAH

I don't think EB/MM cares if you have a hard time replacing the pickups, as they assumed you wanted their pickups when you bought the bass.

It makes it easier for them to use one pickup style, and I guess they felt it was an improvement with the beveled finger rest area.

I can attest that it's difficult to make certain replacement pickups styles since it's impossible to get certain style pickup shells.
