Wiring diagram passive MM/J

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Geddy Lee body and a Dimarzio J for the neck and Nordstrand MM4.3 for the bridge. I want to wire it passive and was wondering if I should put in a switch for making the Nordstrand series and parallel or should I just wire it series and keep it simple? Any suggestions and/ or diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

You can use any passive diagram that meets your needs. They're all over the place: Guitar and parts sites (Fender, Guitarelectronics.com, wherever). Given the question, I would keep it simple and just get it fired up and working that way. You can add a switch whenever.

Given the 4.3, if I was going to wire a switch myself it would be single/HB mode. Typically you can pull parallel enough tone off decent amp controls. I personally I'm not a big fan of parallel tone but it has it's place. I just don't spend a lot of time there.

Oh yeh, you might want to check out FAQ Dimento's Trouble Shooting Guide and the Bass Mod link in the first paragraph for further thoughts.

thanks for the response. I will keep it simple to start and see how it sounds. Already have the parts so looks like a weekend project...

luknfur is correct, just use a J diagram and wire the MM series or parallel depending on how you want it. Bart and Dimarzio have series / paralle/ single coil switch diagrams on their pages too. You'' just need to adapt for the Nord colour codes.

i'd go a 3 way switch. you'll notice a great volume difference between series an single mode. so in H/S pickup selection the humbucker will be overpowering if it is switched to series. but that will give a better stingray like tone if you want to turn down the neck j.

did that make sense? get a 3 way switch. will be better than 2.
