Yamaha Pickups

hi, i have just been told the Pickups on most Yamaha`s and on many other basses are called "SoapBar" pickups. I don`t quite know much about these pickups though, are they different to J and P pickups or are they both combined? can someone explain it to me?

thanks in advance

soapbar just means the shape, just as J is a shape.
Internally, soapbars may be single coil, split coil humbucking, dual coil humbucking or any other combination.
