115 or 210

Hey, all. I'm in the process of helping my school get a new bass amp, and due to some deal we have with a local guitar shop here in town, I can only get an amp from them. Needless to say, my hands are a bit tied and I can't get what I'd prefer to get. So I'm trying to decide between an Ampeg 115 (BA115 HP) combo and a 210 (BA 210 SP) combo. It'd be used for some electric, but most of us are upright players. Which might be a better choice? Thanks for the help!

I would go for the 210. Smaller speakers would give better articulation for the upright, as well as it being a good choice for the electric (more of an SVT sound).

I agree, the 2x10 likely would be a better choice for double bass. 15's tend to sound boomy and vague in my experience. I've had the best results with 12-inch speakers, but 2x10 should work.

I would go with the 2x10 as well. I love how a 15" can add to the sound of a set-up with 10's, but agree with the other poster who notes that a 15" on its own can sound ill defined and woofy.

Cheers,

Edward
