I think the main difference is they keep getting more headroom [Power] but most of the other features have stayed the same. Each series has it's own look...I have a series II Clarus. Nice amp.

The series 1 amps don't have the notch/high pass filters. Mine also had a control for brightness that isn't on my series 3.

I have a series III Focus and briefly owned a series I clarus. They sounded very close but I do remember thinking there was a open richness to the sound of the series I that wasn't there in the series III. The difference was very subtle though and the headroom and features of the SIII outweigh any difference in sound IMO.

The XLR output on the series II is post-EQ, but I think you can select post or pre with the series III.

LXR output

please forgive my ignorance but what are the uses of the LXR output anyway, to use to patch into a main board? I've been in an electronic coma for 20 years. trying to catch up. Dennis

The XLR output is a line out to go to the PA system, usually Via a snake, i.e. a connector bus.

If it helps any, on Gollihur's website, his spec sheet on the Clarus shows little yellow "New" labels next to the specs that are different in the Series III versus earlier Series.
