Am i crazy ? - Roland Jazz Chorus

Hello !
As many people on this forum , im a perfectionist when it comes to gear , i want the best , simply because i have high request on a proffesional tool.

But today something very weird happen !
I was doing a duo gig with a pianist , i didnt have any of my amps available so i thought i just plug my preamp out to the PA . Arryving to the venue i saw there was no PA , it ended up fixing an amp in to the last minutes , the amp was a Roland Jazz Chorus 120 , a guitar amp , a good one but still a guitar amp! . i Thaught this would be terrible and it was not worth doing the gig , until i plugged in !
Sorry guys , but i never had such a great sound with my upright EVER ! ive played SWR , Fender , EBS , WW , Ampeg , but never got such a nice sound as this , and i didnt need to use my preamp ! its really fun when you get that surprised ..

So have any of you guys hade the same experience ? That "in your face " experience with guitar amps , or gear you had underestimated ?

Cheers
/ Ale

The JC is one of the best amps ever made (IMHO), guitar or otherwise. It doesn't surprise me.

Hi Ale.
Just to let you know that your signature is nice!
However it should read "La contrebasse..." (and not "Le")
[/off-topic]

I've heard keyboard amps can be great for upright too!

This is an extremly nice amp for Bass having used one years ago with one of my earlier teachers, I thought she was crazy when she said plug into the Roland.... I play electric myself, but saw the post and had to say your right!

Since my sweedish is null, can you say hello to Henning Mankell for me?
He's one of my favorite writers!

The Roland JC (120, 77. 55, ect) series amps are great for bass....only problem for might be blowing speakers, since the it's an open back cab. If you must, you might get away with stuffing a blanket in the back or something. Then again, that might start a fire!

I used a JC-80 for years as a bass amp, it was pretty good. I then sold it to a keyboardist who played it for many more years.

My Roland JC 160 / JB 410 has been hibernating in my music room for about 25 years ... ... Time to wake her up

Roger , The cube is a great Amp , i use it for practicing , and really small gigs. Great speaker and great preamp , though you will miss a Direct out/line out.

Yeah , i have a Cube 30 for practicing at home , mostly through headphones though. Sometimes i use it on gigs when i dont need the power of the Coda or The big rigs , but i miss the Direct Out ..
Ive built a little "ramp" so i can get the amp up a little , like the AI , and it works great.

Mainly, just don't run it full tilt. The back has to be actually sealed in order to avoid the excursion problem. But then, it's a toss up whether those particular drivers would sound good in a sealed cab.

If you get curious enough, measure the response curve using my program. That would help you get to the bottom of what might be making it sound good for your bass. If nothing else, it would help choose a bass amp and/or EQ settings for a similar sound.

Roland keyboard amp

I used a Roland Keyboard 100 for about 20 years and the only problem I ever had was the little plastic off/on button broke so I made a new one out of walnut. I have an ancient Underwood pickup so I used a little Fishman pre-amp (bloody 9v batteries) and the sound was okay...until I got this new AI (a Clarus and an Ex-cab) which since my bass has a fabulous tone acoustically it now has a fabulous tone a lot louder. In fact it is so clear and like the bass without amplification I have to be careful not to turn up to loud and drown out the piano
