I bought an Ashbory bridge, electronics and tuners and built my own version with a more conventional body. I have played it through many different rigs with good results. Last summer, I played it at a large reggae festival, and my stage rig was a Sansamp RBI preamp, a Carvin poweramp, and two Aguilar 1x12 cabs. It sounded awesome!

I love my Ashbory clone, but am put off by the spontaneous string breakage. A while ago, I played a set in a club, and an audience member came up to ask me about my strange, tiny bass. As I was talking to him.... BONK! The D string broke without me touching it.

I'm not particularly fond of the design of the original Ashbory, but the silicone strings really do sound great. I am very happy with my little clone.

You can't knock these little basses for size and portability. The strings last a very long time. as long as they don't break. I think either the Wizzy 10 or 12 would work fine if you are going after a DB sound.
