Bad pickups.

What is a good equalizer pedal that can help me get a decent tone.

Why not spend the money on better PUP's? Effects can only cure so many ills.

+1 buy new pickups before a pedal! Try the Underwood or Bassmax.

As for pedals, Boss GEB-7 works fine.
