There's a gentleman by the name of Greg Heumann who does righteous mic modifications under the name
Blows me away. His work is targeted at harmonica amplification, but a lot of what he does, I think, could be a real benefit to db players looking for mic options. I was checking out Jason Ricci's sm57 modification: incredibly sweet package, beautifully machined and light. The idea of a shortened, lightweight sm57 is appealing. The idea of a Heil PR40 capsule inside one of his handcrafted wood housings is *really* appealing
I've already reached out to him to explore the possibilities, but if others find his work of interest, perhaps he'll start crafting things targeted at double bass. *That* would be pretty terrific.
