Cabinet--10" or 12"?

I am thinking of going for a seperate amp head and seperate Cab. I play D/B--jazz--small venues.
My question is this: Is there a big difference in sound between a 10" and a 12" speaker cab? With a 10" would I lose some of the depth in the Bass end?

For the price, weight, sensitivity and frequency response I see no reason to go for a 10" instead of a 12".
The 12" (if we take the same model) goes lower, is louder, is almost as heavy as the 10" and only requires a slightly larger cab.
I'd go for the 12" or even for a 15".

Why "or"? I have a Wizzy 10 for really small gigs and a Wizzy 12 for ones that need a bit more sound or bottom.

Other than efficiency and tonal differences, size and weight come into play between 10s and 12s. Look at the whole picture for your realm of gigs.

I've yet to have any useful results putting an acoustic bass through a 15" speaker. I'm a 10" guy myself. More sound needed? Add more 10's.

4, 6, or eight cylinder engine? It depends on the engine and especially who designed it and who builds it. Sure, generalizations can be made, but...

I use all of the above for different gigs. If you only can have one cab, I'd go for the 12" as a compromise. You may need the extra oomph (tech term) it will provide over a 10" and the footprint won't be too much bigger.

My personal preference is a 2x8 cabinet for Double Bass, but there are lots of cabinets out there with 10's, 12's and 15's that sound very good.

As others have said it is totally cab dependent. Cab design and speaker design is equally important. I have four cabs I've used with my AI. A 10" and a horn that I modified that has a wizzer style speaker and is front ported, the little GK 12" extension and is sealed, and EA wizzy 12M that has a wizzer style speaker and has that transmission line port thing, and an Aguilar GS112nt that is front ported but has a deep cab. Each cab sounds unique. The speaker size is not directly proportional to 'sound size' either.

This topic interests me, I think making a 10 "(type EBS Neoline 10) to complete my 12", has anyone tested configuration 10"+ 12"?

I've tried Wizzy 10 + Wizzy 12. It's a good combination of clarity and bottom, but for situations where I need two cabs, I've just used two Wizzy 12 cabs instead.

Likewise, you'll find some players who go with a pair of Wizzy 10 cabs when they need more sound.

Thanks everybody for your replies--the 12" is 'sound' advise.
