John Bass (aka bassomatic.com, aka jcbassomatic) is also a fine player, a really cool and a super nice guy. Last time we talked, he had in his possession a VL-208 and two M-line 12s. Talk about cabinet choices.

That gets us into the juggling of tradeoffs, which of course is a huge part of loudspeaker design.

Adbass, I've run into what you're describing, where there's a non-intuitive crossover characteristic that allows very deep bass (albeit at relatively low levels) to leak through to the highpass driver. This can often be addressed by steepening the highpass filter slope below the nominal crossover region.
yea this is where I get really happy that the wizzy 10 is in my life. it has never let me down. In my studio it is a bit bright and middy but ....I dont play it in my studio....I play it in loud places with waiters and dishwashers and people getting drunk, places that are sometimes up stairs and down long narrow passages and small stages. It (with a focus) is the GK or the new century and unless the new AI box is totally sick (and even then)I dont see anything out there that would cause me box envy. Out in the audience and on stage, the wizzy 10 sounds sick. the middyness gets swallowed up, it deals with mics in a really hifi way and it is light as a feather. To me this cab makes it no stretch to take the Avalon U5 which is what really makes it a totally happing micro rig...sorry to derail but I am so not ready to go back to wishing for the mythical 2x8 when the W10 is so great. I had 2 LDS 1x8's that were nice but not nearly as present, loud, full or light.
...that said if an old EA 2x8 showed up in the neighborhood.....

I am really glad the the wizzy 10 works well for you as it does many others, alllot of this has to do with the sound of our bass, the pickup we use and the amplified sound we want to achieve but I tend to think reading about the Wizzy 10 for a long time and then owning one for a while that many justify it's annoying mid honk because of it's weight and size.

When I think of great tone a Wizzy 10 does not cross my mind. At least that's my opinion.

Just to clarify, Bob G, did you mean above that the NM208 will not be produced at all, not even in the limited initial run of 50, or just that it will not go into further production after that?

Just wondering.

I don't believe, at this time, that it will be produced at all. That's not the official word, that's up to EA, but based on the reality of the actual demand and queries I've seen.

UPDATE

So I have come full circle, no pun intended I use a planet wing pickup.

After dancing with just about every imaginable cab suitable for DB I have aquired 2 VL208s. I have to say everyone is pretty much dead on that this is just a great cab.

On top of it (literally) I've gotten rid of my Focus 2RIII in favor of a Glockenkland Soul Head. With both bass and low controls I can effectively use the bass control to roll off the low end like a HPF. And still have a 4 band EQ, to my ear the tone is just superior to the Focus and unlike my Glock HR it's not a bear to lug around.

Not the lightestest and smallest rig for small combo stuff, I'll keep using my Polytone for that, but for everything else this is just a great sound.

I would like to try the new EA doubler when it comes out and if they fix the mid honk on the wizyy 10, that could potentially be a killer combo.

Thought I'd keep this thread up to date. From my last post above.......I did purchase the Doubler and I think it sounds better then either of my Glock heads (for DB), in fact I sold the Heart Rock a few weeks ago. Although the overall volume is not as high that should make no difference for us here on the DB side.

The doubler works REALLY well with a single or two VL208s for DB it is just a great rig. I just today received two VL108s which I picked up used just next door in the classifieds. I'm still in the office but I'm looking forward to plugging them in tomorrow morning.

I also own an NL210 which I think has more of a modern punchy sound that works better then the VLs for my electric style. At this point a single VL208 comes out on DB gigs and the NL210 on electric gigs. I am hoping the VL108 will work well for small coacktail lounge gigs and save my back a little bit....
