Clarus 1 Series 2 & 8 Ω speaker

In my quest for lighter stuff to lug, I notice that there is a Clarus 1 Series 2 in the for sale section. The thing is, both my cabs are 8 Ω.

Is it ok to use the Clarus with 8Ω? Anyone tried it?

The manual says:
Output Power >200 W @ 4Ω, >300 W @ 2Ω (Clarus)

interesting that they don't list this in the manual. Ah, but you have the older version! Call acoustic image and ask em. I'm sure they'd know.

I guess the version 3 functions above 250 Watts at 8ohms. usually minimum impedence can damage an amp, so i'm willing to bet your series 1 will be ok.

You'd be fine. I have a series one Clarus and use it with an 8 ohm GK cab. see pic. Some times I run two of these cabs and it runs in total at 4 ohms.

(the speaker cab is a GK MBX 112, modified with a crossover at 3.5Khz and a 24dB slope feeding a Dayton ribbon tweeter, which is magnetic and sticks to the MBX or the Clarus, the whole cab ensemble is 12 pounds 10 ounces.)

It is perfectly OK to run your amp with an 8Ω cab. The Series 2 Clarus can develop a solid 120 watts of very clean power into 8 ohms. With a reasonably efficient speaker, that should be enough power for many situations.

BTW I have done a side-by-side comparison of an 80's Walter Woods MI 100-8, a new GK MB150 head and a Series 2 Clarus, which are all rated at about 100 watts into 8 ohms, and subjectively the Clarus was easily the cleanest of the three and also had the most solid low end. The Clarus sounded like it had substantially more power than the other two amps, especially the GK, which had the least headroom of the group.
