Clarus impedance match with DI

I've been using an AI Clarus for a year or two and always just plug my Fishman Full Circle right into the 1/4" input of the Clarus, using the HP filter in the Clarus to reduce the overabundance of low frequencies from the pickup. I got the notion last night to stick a DI box between the FC and Clarus just to see what would happen. Two significant differences; increased background noise in the Clarus, I assume because I'm using the XLR input which is intended to handle mic level input and therefor has much higher gain and associated noise. This was more or less expected, and even though it's noisier, it's still acceptable. The very unexpected change was that the huge low frequency hump that I normally associate with piezo pickups was gone. I mean completely gone. With no EQ or HP I was getting a much more even frequency response and a more pleasing sound using the DI. The question is, why? The input impedances of the Clarus and my DI (Klark-Teknik DN100) are the same: 1 Megohm. I'm curious to know if anyone else can replicate this with a different DI or if anyone has any ideas on what's going on here.

If nothing else others may want to try this trick. It resulted in a significant improvement in sound for me.

Thanks,
Phil
