Complicated setup needs sorting!

Greetings. I'm in great need of help in sorting out the following setup. I've done searches and consulted the Newbie links page, which has helped quite a bit.

Basically, I'm an electric bass player (Warwick standard) and plan to begin studying UR jazz bass here at university (and maybe classical in a few years). I want to purchase my own DB but have yet to do so as I'm still sorting things out.

So here's what I've got and wish to do: I want a reasonably-priced (student budget!) combo amp flexible enough for use with both EB and DB. I'm quite fond of Eden combos for EB but have never tried one with DB. Would the Contra bass work well with both basses and eliminate the need for a preamp? Additionally, I would like to eventually use some of my EB effects (volume pedal, reverb). Will these easily fit into such a setup, given that I use an A/B selector?
