Dave Holland Tone

Dave Holland has an amazing tone on "DeJohnette, Hancock, Holland, Metheny In Concert" dvd.

I couldn't figure what he was using. There was a mic stand but I'm not sure.

Does anybody know what he is using for that double bass sound?

You can email Dave himself and ask about his gear.
He's a gentleman and will answer you as soon as he can, and provide all the details.

He also lists the gear he uses on his website. An underwood and a mic that can't be found anymore if I'm not mistaken. Although I couldn't tell you what he's using on the DVD, because I have yet to see it.

I haven't seen the DVD, but Dave uses:

Small flat back 3/4 French bass
Thomastik Spirocore strings (orchestral tuning).
AKG 406c condenser microphone mounted on the inside of the tailpiece so that the capsule is positioned between the feet about 1 inch from the front of the bass, and this goes directly to the house and monitor system.
Underwood pickup goes through a "Retrospec" tube D.I. that sends one line to the monitors and the house, and one line to my Gallien Krueger MB150E. This has its own 12" speaker and drives a Hartke 410 cabinet.
