EQ settings?

I have to record an audition and all I have is my EUB (palantino VE500) and a little marshall practice amp with a three band EQ what kind of settings do you think would produce the best bowed sound? specifically for stuff like the Eccels

Experts will surely help you with EQ, but can I suggest you borrow a better amp? You might even find someone on these forums who can help you out.

Is this audition tape?

If so I'd skip the amp and go direct.

I'm not sure many people listening to that tape are going to take it as seriously as if you were playing the real bass. Can you borrow one?

That, of course, is even better advice, if you can do it. That's assuming playing on a double bass isn't too much of an extra challenge for you.

fingers, won't recording an EUB directly result in a pretty cold tone, particularly with lower end recording equipment? That's been my experience, and just putting a mic on the amp helped a lot.

I bought the only amp in town and there is slim to none chance of getting another bass. To explain my situation I'm in Puerto Escondido, MX directly south of Oaxaca city and this basically barren when it comes to musical instruments especially upright. So I brought my EUB and thought that the I would be able to find and amp down here. And it turns out the one music shop in the city only has one amp. And its too late to do anything at this point. The audition is for Wisconsin Youth Symphony the most credible and advanced youth orchestra in southern wisconsin, so its not a professional orchestra. I also talked to the director there and they understand my situation so now im just trying to make lemonade wiht my lemons.

It will. I'm not sure a Marshall practice amp will help much though.

I engineer at a studio and when some bass player comes in with a questionable amp I usually just run him direct through a Sansamp. Even the Art tube pre that goes for about $60 from Musician's Friend will sound better than a practice amp IMHO.

If you do choose to use the practice amp run the volume pretty low an let the recording equipment boost the signal.

Given your situation and context, I wouldn't worry too much about your equipment for the audition. Play as well as you can and expect them to be understanding.

If you were here, I would happily let you record your demo with my bass.

Thanks for the help so far I've kind of figured out what works and doesnt, but im still very open to whatever thoughts there are on this, It really is a pain in the ass having to do an audition by tape/CD especially when having to work without your normal equipment, but I mean some times it cant be avoided.

Don't play through an amp. Record into a mic, a few meters in front of your bass. Don't "add" more bad-sounding components to the signal chain. They wanna hear your playing, not your gear. Don't be judged by bad gear. You sound like you've got a lot of heart. Cut out the middlemen; let them judge you on your heart.
