Question EUB EQing

Hey everybody, I'm new to the board, so be nice! I bought an azola floating top bug bass a while ago and really like the feel and acoustic sound. When I amplify it though, I get a low end percussive sound that is overpowering. It's enough that I don't want to play out with my new bass! Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this an EQ problem, or perhaps an impedence problem? Any help would be appreciated.

CLEFKILLER,

This is a shot in the dark since I don't have much information on the setup you're using, but try getting your hands on a graphic EQ (or better yet, a parametric) and then go WOLF HUNTING. Never boost anything on a graphic EQ: start completely flat and cut. When I was experiencing similar problems with a particular pickup, I found that it was most often two areas - below 200 hz, and then again between 600-900hz. I ended up solving the problem by switching pickups, but in the meantime had a lot of success by cutting the offending frequencies in these ranges.

Good luck.

What pickup system did you get with your EUB?
Do you have the OEM K&K piezo in one (or two) bridge slot?
Do you have the Clevinger multi-piezo under each string?

Piezo pickups have frequency response well into the subsonic range, so they can often pick up the actual "thump" of your fingers hitting the strings as well as the sound of the strings themselves. Try rolling off the low EQ, 100 Hz and below.

Personally, after years of screwing with EQ on the amp and never being happy, I bought a Fishman Dual Parametric EQ, this allows notching as tight as 1/15 of an octave so you can easily EQ out noises you don't like (including feedback, main reason I use it).

Wow! Thanks for all the info everybody.
Details:
I'm running the bass through two setups;an SWR workingman's 12, and a Hartke 3500 to an eden 210 XLT.
The pickup in the bass is the standard azola pickup. It's not the crazy one with individual pickups for each string.
I'll be sure to post my results after I get ahold of a good EQ.
