Extension cab recommendations

Hi all,

I recently started using a Clarus I Series III with a Wizzy 10. I love the sound I'm getting, and it works fine for most of my gigs, but occasionally I need more volume so I'm considering adding another speaker. My first thought was the Wizzy 12 and using them both. Has anyone tried anything like this, and would it give me the added volume I'm looking for? I'm open to any suggestion at all.

Thanks

I'd recommend the EA Wizzy M. It's a great sounding cab, and you can play many louder gigs with just the M-line. A Wizzy 10 and Wizzy M together would probably give you more sound than you'd ever need.

If You Like The EA Sound I'd Stick With It

There are quite a few players on Talkbass who have used this combination very successfully. "Added Volume" is kind of a "relative term". Using 8 ohm speakers drops the load to 4 ohms so it will definitely be louder. IMHO it's more desirable to use speakers in matched pairs, but you don't have to do that. I just prefer the sound of two identical cabinets.

I believe both the Wizzy 10 and the M-line are 4 Ω. So the result with both would be 2 Ω.

I've used the Wizzy 10 and Wizzy 12 together with a Clarus head. Adding the 12 increases both volume and low end, with the Wizzy 10 keeping the sound clear and focused.

Nice combination, if a bit funny looking with the different sizes of cabs stacked together. Go for it!

Right you are my friend. I'd forgotten that the newer EA cabinets are 4 ohm. The AI Series III and EA Micro and Doubler will run at 2 ohms. I haven't done an comparison to see what other new heads will operate at that load. I would suspect that by now there are quite a few. Both of my Walter Woods Amps only go to 4 ohms as I recall.

Thanks, that was kind of my thought, or hope anyway. Not concerned at all about how it looks!! That would be a 2 ohm load, should be lots of good sound. Anyone have any thoughts between the Wizzy 12 and the M-line?
