GK 1001RB with 2 10" & 1 12" speaker Cabs at 8 ohms
After much research, I am planning to use a GK10001RB Bass amp and a GK 210 (2 10") and GK NEO112 (1 12") speakers. I play upright as well as a fretless acoustic bass in many different bands ranging from Light jazz to Rockabilly to Big band stuff to Elvis.
Is anyone using this or a similar set up with double bass? Any input would be appreciated.
That's A Pretty Big Rig
Well, it's certainly a nice rig. I myself use a Audiokinesis Thunderchild TC 112 when I'm playing concerts. I don't think their will be any problem with EQ and available amplifier power. Your biggest concern with an upright, would be using the 2x10 and 112 in tandem, because all that speaker surface projecting sound, is going to have a tendency to feed back. So, I think your biggest issue, would be deciding to use either the 112 or 210 cabinet, rather than both, if it will support you on the gig.
That way you could send the bass FOH and avoid the feedback issue. You forgot to mention what pickup you are using on your bass. That usually makes a great deal of difference in how your bass sounds, and what EQ works best.
Thanks for the advice.... I use a David Gage Realist as well as the Fishman PRO-EQ Platinum Bass PreAmp. Also depending on Gig/ size of venue, plug one of my f holes and lower tailpiece with soft Material to lesson the feedback and direct the sound to the pickup.
Nice set-up you have.
I have a GK MB500-use with a
NEO 112 &/or a Markbass 210 cab
Also have the Fishman Pro EQ & Underwood PU
Have used either cab with great results.
Also tried them both together in my house.... Was concerned that one cab would be louder, but they seemed to sound good together.
May pick up another NEO 112 to get a more uniformed sound-(less expensive than the Markbass.) when I heed more power.
Last night I used the Mark bass 210 cab without the Fishman Pro EQ-pleasantly surprised at the great sound-but, the stage had carpets, curtains....
The GK 1001 amp should provide plenty of power with one cab or both.
My 2 cents
I run a GK1001 with a 2-12 neo for EUB and a 4-10 neo for BG.
I've only used them together outside with no PA support.
No issues with mixing driver sizes.
I like the sound of 1-12 or 2-12's for my EUB.
Though I don't have an acoustic upright any more--- 1-12 gave me the best "flat" sound and minimized feedback issues.
Though all the above info is in reference to my GK stuff,
my main amp for general business gigs is a Markbass 112, occasionally with a 112 extension speaker.
The GK is my rock rig.
