Good Wireless Pickups?

Can anyone reccomend a good wireless pickup? I'm willing to spend about $300 on one. I'm relatively new to all of this and still getting everything set up so any other information pickup wise would be appreciated. Thanks.

im not sure what you mean by wireless....as in you dont want any wires going from your bass to the amp?

i think your best bet would be a send and recieve type radio unit used for microphones

.....or just put a wireless microphone on your bass

well yeah, theres wireless UHF transmitters for mics and guitar so youll probably run your pickups into the transmitter.

my concern would be the sound quality. im not sure what frequency response a cheap one would have. the sound quality may suffer at frequencies less than 50hz or so, so you would have to look into high level theater gear, far beyond $300 us i would imagine.

i have played around with them in the past in a theater setting but ive never tested them out specifically with bass. i think there use is a bit limited, as in large stages where you move around and dont want a cord to trip over or get in the way. theyre just another expense and pain to setup on a gig

well, there was that one gig where i had to fly onto the stage, suspended by wires........

I could be all wet, but I think you can use any pickup you want. Go to any music equipment retailer's site, and do a search for 'wireless guitar system'. Like this. There may be "bass" specific systems too.

But before you get too far, check this out too, FWIW.

I used a wireless system with DB for a while. There is a big impedence mis-match when using it with a piezo pickup. It sounded like dog sh*t with the BP-100. When I used it with a mag pickup, it sounded just fine. They are also susceptable to outside electrical interference. When the compressor fired up in the gas station across the street, I got all kinds of great new sounds thru my amp. Personally, I would save my coin, and stick with the cable.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll just go with a regular pickup instead. I have my eye on a few anyway.
