Got my updated Markbass CMD 121P!

Pretty stoked: I just got my updated version of the mini CMD 121P. When I originally bought it 6 weeks ago, I did learn a couple of days after I bought last year's model that Markbass had updated it and they were shipping this summer in Canada. A couple of things intrigued me, specifically the pre/post DI switch (which will make sound guys happy) and the new limiter that should improve the performance at high volumes at 8 ohms. I went back to return the old one and told them that I'll wait for the new one to come in... they said hold on to it and they'd exchange it.

After gigging the old CMD 121P for the last month, I was pretty happy with it. It was great for small to medium size gigs, but I had it on a couple of large stages (once opening for Blue Rodeo) and it just didn't have the oomph that I needed there. So I broke down today and ordered the New York 121 when I picked up the new amp. Man, this rig is getting up there in price, but it should take care of all my needs. I get a good sound out of the combo with my upright and my Fender Jazzes already, so that second 12 should give the meat that I was missing in a larger room.

Has anyone else mated the New York 121 with this combo? I can only assume it will sound pretty killer. I know some say that some of those other Markbass cabs are better, but I am really into the portability that the NY 121 will still provide.

Anyway, I'm happy, and the GAS is sated for the moment...

That sounds like a killer rig. I really like that combo and want one badly.

Please do post with your thoughts on the 121P. I've been thinking of adding one to my CMD 121P as well.

Yeah, I will post my thoughts after I get it. Unfortunately, it might take about 4 - 6 weeks though. I will likely take 'er on tour in the fall.

If you have the time please post your initial thoughts as soon as you get it!

I've been looking to invest in an ext. cab for my mini cmd121p (from here on out I'm just going to call it the MBnano) for the longest time but I've been torn on which one to get. I was looking at the Bergs because they are in the same price range, but I really like the idea of a matching cab that the Mbnano will stack perfectly on top of.

I was also looking at the 121h cab...just because that's tuned to 40hz as opposed to the ny121's 45. But then again it's alot larger...

Yeah, I went with the smaller cab because I need something that will still fit in my Mazda3 with the combo and my upright. I need to be able to move everything in one trip. I'm not sure that I would even notice that extra 5 Hz of depth. The 121P is pretty fat.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm interested in following up and seeing your thoughts on the 121 combo now that you've matched it up with the ny cab.

Well, after considerable waiting, I just received the cab (over 3 months since I ordered it). I'll gig it this week and report back.

CMD for TRI-115L

Thanks Dave. Hope you're enjoying the Mini CMD.
The Tri115L works fine. You should hear it when paired with my other CMD121P! The Mark Combo fills in that mid-hump that I'm used to hearing along with the rich bottom of the 115.

Thanks Again

Here's what I wanna know:

- CMD121P weight: 27.3 lbs
- New York 121 weight: 27.3 lbs

Either a) Markbass goofed on the specs b) the head weighs 0.0 lbs c) The New York has extra material that offsets the weight of the head.
