help with cabinet choice please!

hi there!

i want to buy a cabinet for an EA iamp 350 but there are some conditions...

- light weight
- good sound for doubling
- cheap!!
- available in Europe

can someone share experiences or ideas?

would it be a waste to pair the iamp 350 with the GK 150mbx extension? would i still have "hi-fi" sound?

cheers!

mad

I think you would have the opposite of the "hi-fi" sound, with
the gk extension speaker. No lows, no highs, and low volume.
A small EA, epifani, or Bergantino, would do MUCH better. imho

b flat, how about the Hevos Midget from Netherlands?
1X10 w/ or w/o tweeter, 400w, 14kg, 490-590 euro
incl. 19%VAT. Too heavy? Too expensive?

Scott, have you heard these cabs? I wonder what they sound like.

It's what I've been using for three or four years now (I ordered one over the 'Net before they started shipping them over here). It does very well, especially if you put it on the floor. You lose quite a bit of bottom when you put it on a chair or stand. I use my bass wheel to angle it up better.

I think it's a better BG cab, but still not a bad DB cab, especially considering that it has a 10" speaker, which I generally don't like for anything.

Adrian, sorry for the late reply but I think Ray is spot on
with his post. I bought one about two years ago and I
find it works well if you're playing both basses on a gig.
I use a two-channel Walter Woods with it and although
it's a compromise it's workable.

b-flat, I use an Aguilar gs112 cab with my EA iamp 800 head and I could not be happier. It has the nice bottom of some cabs (if you need that) while maintaining a very hi-fi sound. It is very portable. Not too terribly expensive either.

Presuming that EA is available to you (since you have an iAMP 350), I would check out the Wizzy 1x12. It is very light, especially for its size, and at 4 ohm would get all of your power into just one cab. Sure, there is no tweeter, but after playing through it for a few minutes, you don't miss it. The high end is plentiful and articulate, but just doesn't have the high end zing (or hiss!). If Epifani is also available, the T-110UL would be another (albeit very different) alternative. It is a bit more mid-scooped than the EA, but has a nice, slightly round tone, and if you do like the sound of tweeters, the Epi tweets are the best. And talk about light!

Tom.
