I owned an Orange Roland Cube 50 and I can tell you that the components are packed inside that amplifier. Not something I'd attempt personally. My guess is that Roland uses those flimsy plastic jacks. They break of easily.

It's most likely that the speaker connections are preventing you from getting the head out of the box. You're correct you don't want to break those connections, but you could fish around a little to see if there is a connector on the board that will unplug the connections. The pre amp may also be connected to the power amp with some kind of wire harness. Hard to tell. Not sure that I'd mess with it.
