Question I'm looking for a new amp

I have an old Kay bass with a Gage Realist pickup and I'm looking for an amp for small gigs. I've been looking at two GK solutions. 1) MB150E-III/112 Micro Bass Combo and 2) the MB150E-III Micro Bass Head with a NEO-112 cabinet. The head and cab option seemed appealing because occasionally I like to take out the electric bass, however this setup is more work to move. I'm looking for any input for selecting the best amp maybe the GK is not the answer.

That combo will serve you well. It has some volume limitations, but you can play up to pretty large gigs with it without house support before you start to really worry about it. It's not a rock rig, but it's quite good for electric bass at coffee house levels.

You'd have to try the seperate cab option and see how you liked it. My opinion having owned the combo and having tried several extension cabs is that if you're doing that to make it more scalable, you'll probably not get where you want to be. You should look for a head with more power it that's what you're going for. If you're doing it for tone, you've just got to try it.

Hope that helps.

I am quite happy with my MB combo for both upright and electric. If tone is what you are after, the combo will be fine. If you need more volume for your electric work, the NEO will probably be louder for the same amount of amp power.

For loud gigs, I went through a progression of homemade extension speakers until I finally arrived at this. It is not quite as portable as the MB combo, but I only need it for a handful of my gigs.

As long as people are touting their rigs

Avalon U5
AI Focus SA
Epifani UL110

If I use a fishman proplatinum instead of the Avalon, I can get the whole 600 watt amp rig in the larger pocket of my bass bag

I like the epifani cab a lot for both double bass and electric, although it has a very string midrange that sounds a little off if you're used to the mid-scoop that a lot of cabs tend to have

GK plus extension cab

I came to this:GK microcombo (my is an old MB200) + GK MBX112 extension cab (the same as on ED FUGUA´s picture). It works fine for my both basses (EB,URB).

I love my AI power amp--I don't understand why more guys don't use these, except for the high cost.

i'm reallly looking forward to seeing what EA does.

Red face Power to Weight

If money is not an issue, I would look at Bagend.com.
Get an ELF. Flat response down to 12 HZ. 8 Hz if you really have the green. A small 10 or twelve for the bottom and whatever else you want on top. Personally I REALLY like the Ampeg Rocket B-100R. I use two in stereo with an ELF 18. A more cost effective compromise is the new Roland stuff; really neat technology.

Although, I bit on a Clarus III. Lots of great cabs to match it up with. I choose Schroeder Mini 12+ and dig it.
