Smile K&K Double Big Twin + Thunderfunk + Accugroove = Happy

Just thought I'd share my $0.02...

I'm new to DB, but use a TF+Accugroove with my EB. So, I figured it'd probably be OK for DB.

I started with a K&K Bass Max and no pre-amp, because that's how's it's marketed/hyped. I couldn't get a good sound out of it no matter what I did. Sounded like mud. I'll admit, I never did try a pre-amp (I didn't own one, and couldn't find one to borrow), but I suspect an impedance matching problem.

So, I just bit the bullet and (after more reading) bought a K&K Double Big Twin + pre-amp. It sounds excellent with my rig and bass (even though my bass is an inexpensive student bass).

No, big epiphany... Just thought I'd share.

I'm also using th K&K Double Big Twin but I'm waiting for my preamp to arive (the Fishman Pro platinum bass) Like you I've suffered with an awful DB sound through my amp (Hartke HA350/SWR Goliath 210 cab), great for my electric Ibanez, but miserable for the upright DB.
I'm really hoping that I can get a usable sound with the preamp!!?

JDM, you should get a much better amplified sound with the preamp. Fewer feedback issues, too.

Mukaji, the DBT, like the Bass Max, has a very high output impedance and really needs a preamp to sound its best in most amplifiers. If you're happy now, you'll be happier with a serviceable preamp. Doesn't have to be pricey or have a lot of bells & whistles to do its impedance-matching thing. A used Fishman Model B goes for 30 bucks or so, and does the job very well.

Yeah, I probably should have tried a pre-amp with the Bass Max before I bought a new system, but I like the fact that the DBT transducers are close to the strings. It gives a lot of "finger" sound.

(sent from my iPhone sitting in a bar watching the SF/SD game...)
