Kustom Groobass 1200HD?

So does anybody have experience with this head on DB? I currently have an Ashdown Mag300H, but I have the opportunity to trade/upgrade for the Kustom head which has 1200watts, 800w for me since it would run at 4 ohms. I know that the Mag already sin't the best amp for DB, but what about the Kustom, is this an upgrade or a downgrade in sound?

I'm using a Full Circle. It wasn't too bad bad with the Ashdown. Apperently both the Ashdown and the Kustom are warm amps, but I don't know which one is warmer.

Anyone else?

I asked a similar question in the "guitar" section and got all responses saying that the Ashdown is warmer. So that indirectly means that the Kustom is better for DB since I will get a true sound.

So yes, the Kustom is definately a better amp for DB. Infact, I like it better for my electric basses as well. It's very easy to get a sound you like whatever that sound may be.

I'm using a Mag 300h myself and have considered picking up a 1200hd as they are powerful and inexpensive. How clean of a tone are you getting out of it?

Our rigs are actually very similar jazzin.. a fretted, a fretless jazz, a DB, formerly the same head, a 2x10, and a 12, mine is a single though. Once the new Hawkes Hybrid comes in I'm gonna take out an insurance policy to cover my $8k worth of gear. My car is only worth $2k so that makes an accident scary when I'm going to a gig, haha!

I would recommend the Kustom GB 1200 to you over the Ashdown Mag300.

I have used several Kustom product and have always been stuck by the questionable quality. They remind me of Behringer in that regard. I wouldn't spend my money on Kustom. I'd rather save up a bit longer and by a brand with a good track record.

I'm kinda glad this thread came up. I have a good friend and former bandmate who works for Kustom down in Cincinnati. They are releasing the Groove 1300 and Groove 600. From what he tells me, these amps have had a redesign with the EQ and are completely flat when zeroed out. I was (yes i said WAS) sure of getting one of these to go with my Avatar B210 Neo 4 ohm cab and use for my electric upright rig. But the more research I've done, the more I've gravitated away from getting the 600 (which is 450 watts into 4 ohms). Granted, I can get a new head for really cheap through my friend that works there, but for some reason I just haven't pulled the trigger. I just keep seeing Kustom as a "rock" bass amp, not really voiced (or designed) for upright bass, acoustic or electric. Plus, if at all possible, I'd like to find an amp that has a buffered input so I don't have to run through an outboard preamp and just go straight from my EUB to the amp. But those bass heads that have that feature aren't exactly cheap (think Eden, SWR, AI, EA). I still may go for it and get a nice outboard pre (Fishman platinum pro) since I can get it so cheap. But I wish they were out already so I can see if there are any flaws or issues popping up with them.
