make your own bass pickup

Has anyone tried the "make your pickup' construction recipe found on http://home.earthlink.net/~jasband/piezo.html ?

I was gonna give it a try, but thought I'd ask first to see if anyone has done it . . .

TIA
Dave

Yeah, this will produce sound, but you probably won't like it. The frequency response of any old piezo will probably be full of hot and cold spots in the spectrum. Real pickups like the much harolded K&K Bass Max aren't too much.
