New Schertler Stat-B just stopped working...

Weird...I was A/B-ing my new Schertler Stat-B with my Realist, as well as trying out the external speaker jack on my AI Contra with some Eden cabinets (just messing around to make sure it works...I bought the AI used last year). I pulled the cable leading from the Schertler pre to the amp to check the battery light, which is something the Schertler manual says that you can do with no problem. When I plugged it back in, no signal at all is coming from the Schertler.

I'm getting cable sound (though I did switch out the cable just to make sure, with the same result). I also tried running the Stat-B's cable directly to the AI's in, but got absolutely no sound.

So, the cable is good (checked both cables with the Realist and they're working fine, as well as the AI). I'm getting no sound when running the Stat-B to the Schertler pre to the AI, and no sound with the Stat-B directly to the AI. Did something fry? Did I do something wrong? One moment it's working and the next it's not...

Cable Confusion?

I do believe it is possible to cable up the pre-amp box backwards and
you get nothing out of it in this case. Both use the same jack style.

You mean pluging my pickup cable to the output (instead of input) and plugging the cable to the amp into the input (rather than the output)?

You know, that would be just like me. I thought I was being all thorough with my isolating the problem, but can't remember if I made sure that I had the pickup to the in, the out to the amp. I'm going to go out on a limb here and give my self a preemptive "duh."

Yup, lesson learned: pickup to input, output to amp. Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me Maaaven!

TB saves the day again! Reminds me of the time I freaked out because my Raven Labs PMB-II quit working right as I was about to go on at a concert at the Aebersold camps. Rufus Reid was playing next and let me borrow his for my set, so I handed him the "broken" one, and he let me use his "good" one. When I came offstage, he smiled and informed me that I'd put the battery in backwards.

Hey Paul, when you get a moment can you post some feedback regarding the Stat-B? I'm always looking for a better sounding pickup and I'm really curious about the Schertler.

Another loose battery...

I had to rush to CVS thinking I had a dead battery on Tuesday as my Stat B preamp was non-functional just before I was to start playing my gig. Luckily CVS is a block away. After I got the unit open using a house key, I found the battery was not connected. Don't know how this could have happened as I hadn't changed batteries in a couple of months and everything had been working fine. There's a first for everything...

No problem: I've got some time tomorrow to practice some lines I've been working on, so I'll try to get something up tomorrow afternoon.
