Probs with ATM350 and Acoustic Image Coda -- help

I was wondering if anyone out there might be able to help me figure out what's causing this problem that I'm having. It's weird.

I am using a new Audio Technica 350 mic along with a K&K pickup, each going into their own channel, phantom power from the amp provided to the mic channel (Channel 2).

Sounds good and works fine for about 2 hours, then the mic starts to make loud "phht phht" sounds. Sounds like it's either shorting out or overloading. Has messed up like his on 3 of 5 occasions when I've used it, and I ended up turning off the mic channel.

I have played gigs with the mic going straight to the board instead of my amp and that worked OK. Had the amp checked out because I suspected something was up the phantom pwr, but it came back OK.

Any ideas? Has anyone had any similar experiences with condenser mic problems? Solutions?

I'm thinking about testing it with an external phantom power box... Or just returning the mic. I like the sound when it works but it's driving me crazy.

Never had a problem with the Sm58...

Thanks for your help.

That is unusual, at least to me. The only other thing I could suggest would be to email the folks at Acoustic Image with this same problem description.

I'd actually like to try that ATM-350 out myself.

If you think of it after it's (hopefully) all worked out, please let us know what the deal was.

P.S. Also (ex-Washington, D.C.) here.

Thanks Steve.

I contacted the folks at AI, and I'll post an update when I hear back from them. Did you know that "bolo" means a "gig" here in Spain?

peace
