Question to al EA cabs owners and to all who want to chime in :)

Hello all.
I have a CXL112 and a CXL110 that I run with my upright and I like them quite a bit. I've been asked to do some tunes on electric bass that are based on effects (soundscaping as I like to call it) such as delay, wah wah and distortion. I'm not worried about the delay as it doesn't alter the sound but I am worried about the distortion and the effect it may have on the speakers. Those songs will in the "loud" realm and the last thing I want is to damage those nice EA speakers and be on my butt when my upright needs amplifying. Any wisdom you folks can share with me will be appreciated.
Thank you all for taking the time.

Hi,

I have two CXL 112s. I use them for both DB and slab. I have used one cxl112 with my iAMP800 with a REALLY loud corporate band for a few years now and have not blown it up. I use the second one when it gets into stoopid loud territory (any louder than that and I would quit!). I have found they sound better with the tweeter off when using distortion/fuzz. You should be fine unless you are getting into stoopid loud volumes (rock music with 4x12 guit amps)

There's a big difference between distortion from a pedal and amplifier clipping. The fuzz box adds lots of harmonic distortion, while amplifier clipping, which produces square waves, can quickly destroy any speaker. I'm not very familiar with the CxL-112, but the tweeter in the CxL-110 can take a lot of abuse.

Yes indeed. When I played full time electric the only way i would have it is with my 60's SVT cranked. That was an amazing sound with the amp in full overdrive. But, this is not what I am trying to accomplish
Thank you both for shedding some light on the matter. I just wasn't sure if the EA speakers could handle what I have in mind. I now think they can.
BTW who manufacture EA's speakers?

EA CXL 110s use a speaker made by Pyle, they use various brands.

... I thrash both EA and my own Mini cabs with all sorts of effects including FUZZ (and very loud too)... No issues so far

Actually the woofer in the CxL-110 is custom made for EA by Eminence, and the coaxial tweeter driver is made by Pyramid. John Dong told me they seldom have problems with that tweeter.

I can believe that ...

It is a piggyback design and the label on the back does say Pyramid by Pyle but I'm guessing that magnet is the tweeter and the eminence label is covered.

... Thanks for the inside info
