realist-amp/speaker combinations?

I have a realist with my carved bass and was wondering about what amp/speakers or combos folks are really high on?

I'm a fan of a Claris with a M-line Wizzy... sounds good with my realist.

Walter Woods and VL 208

This is what I've used for about 2 years now. A Walter Woods amp and the Euphonic Audio VL 208. Unfortunately, they don't make the VL 208 anymore so you would have to go with a Wizzy 12 or 10 instead. Since Walter's amplifers are pretty pricey you might consider a Little Mark II, but really road test it before you buy, because it's getting very mixed reviews for DB. See the threads. The EA Micro should be very nice if they ever get the minor glitches they had with the first run of the amp.

I see the EA in common with both responses. That figures because I find the realist to be dark and low (I like that sound although I haven't tried the full circle). I tried an acoustice image combo for a while but it was too dark and muddy but maybe the EA would bring out more mids and higher end?

realist plus .....

The extremely high impedance of the Realist causes lots of trouble to get the right sound out if it. With a suitable pre-amp you can make the output signal fit to any amp.
E.g. the Fishman pro-eq platinum. I got good results in combination with the Realist.
To my taste also the Realist is too boomy on the low end. The eq on the Platinum is very usefull to correct this. And the phase switch pretty much deminishes feedback. Which also makes the sound a bit more tight.

What does this mean, Ric?

You're a guy who a lot of us lurkers look up to.

There are plenty of amps in the marketplace.

Are you saying, "The EA Micro is a flawed amp, but if they get it to work as they claimed it should, it'll be a good amp?"

Why don't you just reccommend an amp that is available that is a good amp?

Respectfully,

+1 on the Fishman preamp

I feel that the realist sounds the best with a preamp and a relatively clean/transparent amp, though the Fishman preamp has been pretty awesome, especially as a feedback eliminator. I also use an Acoustic Image Coda, which is pretty transparent, so the realist going through preamp comes out pretty "tight sounding". Now if I could get a nice mic...

Well according to Macmarkt his second Micro is doing fine, so that's good news. Mike Dimm stated that we are about three weeks away from a production run of the re tooled amp. When they make it to peoples hands then we'll see how they "run". It's a little early to say just yet. EA has always had great customer service, so all I can say is let's just wait and see. Personally I love the Little Mark II but many TB rs don't like the VLF and VLE. It's not a one size fits all issue.

Realist + AI Focus 2R (Series III) and Epifani UL-112 speaker... very nice combo for me (... and my bass ).
Nice round bass sound.
I use the notch filter, around 2 oclock... cut mids, and leave bass and treble middle... somehow with that pickup and that bass, AI's EQ is working fine for me... (with BG it has close to no effect)

Realist + AI Focus 2R (Series III) OR Old (1980's) Walter Woods MI-225 w/ EA Wizzy M-line 12. Simply GREAT! I use a LR Baggs Paracoustic DI w/ my combo (Polytone or Yorkville) amps or any backline amp I'm unfamiliar with.
