| For what it's worth, and maybe it's worth nothing, I've had better luck with cabs/amps/preamps than combos. Especially if you're doubling, it's a more versatile deal and IMHO usually ends up being lighter. I have an AI focus SA and if I use the fishman pro-eq, or a sansamp paradriver as a preamp, the whole deal fits easily in the pockets of my winter coat! I have an epifani 1x10 that sounds great with upright, and it weighs nothing, so even if I use an avalon u5 as a preamp, which is what I usually do, I can put the whole amp rig in a shoulder bag, bass in one hand, cab in the other, and if I'm lucky it's one easy trip. If I have a louder electric bass gig I add a second cab.
The disadvantage is you have to assemble the thing--power cables, input cable, speaker cable(s) instrument cable. It's a relativley minor disadvantage though.
