Schertler Pickup Help

Hi I am the newbie ,Don Monrad , monradon also called the Hobbit I have had that handle for 40++ years. I am not a player, yet my hobby is finding and making playable again old instruments . My son is the bass player and does bass and backup on guitar for the South Dakota Old Time Fiddlers and they found out that his dad know where the wires go and so I help out with sound now.

I am helping someone repair a bass and with it is a nice schertler pickup but the preamp was lost. Could you direct me to someone that knows or would know if it makes a difference which kind of preamp is used ??

Thanks

What kind of Schertler pickup it is? Does the transducer fit between the bridge wing with a bit of cork (in which case it is a Stat-B) or is it a round disc that sits on the top table with putty (in wihch case it is a Dyn-B)?

copper plates

It has two copper plates on it that hold on , I am guessing with tape or maybe the corks that were had tape on both sides. Where the cord goes clamps on the two middle strings next to the tailpiece. You wouldnt know where they sell the corks I need some replacement for a violin pickup.

That doesn't sound like a schertler to me--sounds maybe like a Fishman BP-100.

Did you try writing to Schertler?

Think its a Schertler

I think its a Schertler there is one like it posted on Ebay that I am trying to get the model number of it, have not heard back from him yet.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6661&rd=1&rd=1

Really would like to find out where to get the replacement corks.

Ok--that's a stat-b. I'm sure Schertler would sell you replacements

The preamp isn't necessary, IMHO--you can just buy an adapter to take the LXR plug down to I/4 and then use a regular amp

Has 1/4 inch plug

This already has a 1/4 inch on it and another ground wire that is supposed to wrapped on the ends of the strings for another grounding but to tell the truth I can not see where this is needed because good contact is already made where it hooks on the strings.

Thanks for the help

You do need the preamp, I'm afraid: the pickup is electrostatic, i.e. it needs power, delivered by the preamp, in order to work.
