Setup of revolution solo pickup

I recently fitted a revolution solo pickup. I'm doing some loud gigs with a country/rock 'n' roll band and my realist wasn't cutting it (see my previous post about feedback problems with the realist)

The revolution seems to work well, it seems better suited to loud gigs and has a better sound for the style of music (though IMO the realist beats it for lower volume jazz gigs)

My question is this: The manual says if the fit of the pickup is too tight you will suffer from a thin sound and a low output. But how tight is too tight?? too loose will also cause problems and if you sand it down too much you can't put it back to how it was. Right now it does have a fairly low output, and when flat the tone is fairly thin and quite toppy, but with some eq I can get a good sound - I'm just not sure if I'm getting the best sound I can, but obviously reluctant to sand more off the bridge or pickup in case I go too far.
If anyone has experience with this pickup feedback would be very welcome!

We covered this in previous threads. Not shaving enough off will choke the pickup. When I last used mine, I intentionally went a little too far and it still sounded good - only that I had to twist it a little bit in the wing to make sure it stayed it. But still if I tapped it firm, it would pop out easily. I think the key is that you need to have flat wing surfaces on your bridge. Just look for the previous threads using the search tool.

If you screw up and go too far, you can always send it back to Upton and they will refurb the wood for you. It's still a good pickup. I use it as a backup and don't like wing pickups anymore cuz they choke up the bass a bit.

I sanded it down a little, still a firm fit but not as tight. Certainly doesn't sound any worse, possibly a little louder.
