Shure PG57?

I'm considering picking up a Shure SM57, but I saw the PG57 on Elderly's site and (after searching "PG57" on here w/ no luck), thought I'd see if anyone on here has any experience with it and could maybe compare the two. Seems to get decent eviews on Harmony Central.. haven't checked Gear Slutz yet.

I've never seen them, but based on this, I'd save up for the R-rated version. I have the Beta 57, and it's a solid workhorse when combined with a pickup.

Yeah, I gathered as much from reviews I found on other forums too. The Beta's a little more than I can afford right now, but the SM57's within reach and sounds like it's built tough.

Click podcast #85 and FF to 30:00. For anyone that might be interested, they do a nice SM57 vs PG57 comparison.

The regular 57 would be fine. For years, they were *the* instrumental mic for live applications. The only difference that I can tell with the beta is the hypercardiod pattern for better off-axis rejection.

I did not like the 57 thirty years ago, let alone these days (new 57s don't sound as good as old ones, and there are so many choices these days). Get a Senny E906 or an Audix D4 (used of course).

Yeah, I have also considered the Audix D4.

edit: Found a D4 on ebay for a good price and figured I'd give it a try.
