Shuttle head problem.

Anybody have any problems with a GB Shuttle 6.0 head? I bought one about 8 months ago and tonight at sound check it was working fine one minute but there was some crackling coming from the gain knob so I was turning it back and forth to try to clear it up a little when suddenly it went almost dead except for a very thin and very quiet sound only audible by cranking it. Anybody have a problem like this? I just started a 2 week run in Texas and now no amp. If anybody has any advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Oh yeah, it's not the pickup cause there's plenty of signal going to the house and I tried plugging straight in to the head bypassing the preamp so it's not one of the instrument cables. I also swapped out the speakon cable and got the same result. could it be a faulty tube?

I read something on the BG forum about the quality of the power it's receiving and problems when it wasn't getting good clean power.

Could be a tube too and that's an easy fix if it is.

Sounds like a preamp tube issue. It could be a dirty pot, but I'm thinking tube.

Most likely cause it a bad tube. If you have a spare 12AX7A or WA, try that first. It's possible the gain pot is defective but relatively unlikely.

Give Jeff a call att he factory Monday morning and he will get it sorted out for you.

Does customer service get any better? I don't own any GB products, but this ensures that I will try them out the next time that I'm looking for a new rig.

Thanks for the advice! I'll see if I can find one of those tubes if we stop at a music store. hopefully that's all it is and I can be back in business.

Texas is only one shipping day away from AX in case it needs to be looked at. If you need help, Jeff or Scott are only a phone call away.

So...I took the amp in to a repair shop and it turned out to be a blown speaker. The repairman called up Genz because the cab is still under warranty and got Jeff Genzler on the phone. He seemed quite impressed as was I that you can get the head of the company on the phone that easily!

Anyway, I've been using the 6.0 head with the shuttle 10-T cab and Jeff said that the 10-T wasn't designed to work with the 6.0 because it's only rated at 200 watts while the 6.0 puts out 375 at 8 ohms. So technically it's my fault that the speaker blew and not covered under warranty.

However, he told the repairman to cut open the cone and check for any signs of burning/melting. There was none so Jeff said he would cover it and is sending out a new speaker to be put in by Friday! I've heard good things about their customer service but now I know for myself! Thanks a lot guys! I've gained a lot of respect for you!

To add to this, and I have mentioned it before, one of the tradeoffs that are made with the sub-compact cabinets is in the extreme low end power handling. While the cabinet is ideal with the Shuttle 3.0, the 6.0 delivers enough power below the cutoff of the cabinet to cause damage under some conditions. That's why Jeff (and me too) does not recommend it unless being very careful.

Just to be fair, this is true regardless of manufacturer.
