Speaker for home built cabinet?

I am thinking of building a home made 1x12 or 1x15 speaker cabinet for a mark bass LMII head. My thought is to buy a speaker and build the cabinet. Unfortunately my knowledge is limited in this department, so any suggestions would be great.

Way too many choices.

The Eminence Deltalite 2512 is a nice neo driver. Fdeck turned me on to it and gave me the great idea for a small cabinet:http://personalpages.tds.net/~fdeck/bass/smallbox.pdf
This is a good source for everything you need:

I now have two of these little boxes and don't own anything else. Neither the Contra EX or Wizzy 10 sounded as good to me so they moved on to another playroom. It is a very nice sounding cabinet and very portable at under 20lbs. A recent paint job with this:http://www.acrytech.com/store.asp?pid=14119&catid=19771
Gives the boxes a very professional look. I recently made some for a friend who thinks they are the best boxes he has ever used.

If you are interested, I'd be happy to send you my plans and a materials list. I have no doubt you have the necessary tools to do it right.

What To Consider

My father in law and I built a single Electro Voice 15 TL box from plans that you could just buy a while back. My guess is that they are available on the internet these days. Lots of speakers to choose from. MarkBass does use B&C Neo's for many of their cabinets. I'm pretty sure they are customized for their specific designs though. Eminence has a neo line as well.

I remember that EV TL 15 very well. They are a great design. I built one from 13ply birch and liked it so well I made another. Alas, I had a sheet of particle board so that went into the second one. That was one heavy mother, so I gave it to a beginning player a few years back. The orange carpeting didn't help the look much.

Clink, thanks for the kind words. My little 12" box is still serving me well. It's actually overkill for my gigging these days, but I am happy with the tone.

If, 20 years ago, someone had told me that a 20 pound bass rig would be overkill for anything, I would have laughed at them.

It's also worth looking over on the BG side, to where TB'er greenboy has 12" and 15" designs using the latest Eminence drivers. These are really well thought out designs with midrange drivers. He gives detailed dimensions for all of the parts to cut out.

You could ask over there about the TL design as well. Someone might have a copy. But I think greenboy's design represents the evolution of that concept. And of course TB'er billfitzmaurice sells plans for his bass horn designs.

I'd recommend the Eminence S2012, which is a 12-inch speaker with neodymium magnet. I really like the way it's voiced for double bass and BG. It has a very good xmax spec but is only rated for 150 watts power handling. However I've found it handles a 300-watt amp just fine and will take a lot of abuse. You can get more info on Eminence's website here as well as a few different cabinet designs here.
