Still playing a Wizzy 12 cab?

I used to read a lot about all the bassists using the original Wizzy 12 cab, but now everything seems to be about the Wizzy 12 M-Line or the Wizzy 10.

Is the original Wizzy 12 now out of favor for some reason or is it just that the novelty factor has worn off and we use 'em without talking about it?

I still find it an amazing, multi-purpose cab and am trying out a pair of them tonight for a doubling blues gig.

Well, I've got two 10", a 12" and a 12" CXL. I really don't intend getting an M-line because the last thing I need is more bass. I suppoose it all depends on what bass(es) you have. My Upton Prof is quite strong on the bottom so it doesn't work too well with the 12" but is great with the 10", plus the other if the room is large (theatre size). And my Meinel, which is quite bright sounds great with the 12". If you've got the muscles to handle the CXL (or is it a CLX? - I'm confusing it with a Mercedes) then it's a great speaker with a lot of mid range sparkle. Remember also that the further away you are from the cab the less toppy but more bottomy the sound is, so I've never been overly preocupied with getting a lot of bass. So, I like my 12" Wizzy very much and I'm sure you will after your blues gig.

PS. not to do with this thread, but do we know Thomas Martin? Well, I've found out that he lives less that 15 miles from my house. He has just built a bass for John Patitucci and I'm going to visit him this weekend. Could be expensive!

Original Wizzy 12 for me. I'd love to try a 10, but don't have any real reason to unless one somehow becomes available to me. Haven't looked at M-Lines. I'm happy. If I had to buy a new one for some reason, I suppose I'd do some reading before I chose, but fortunately I don't.

I owned a regular Wizzy 12 and a Wizzy 12 M-Line for awhile. I ended up not using the regular Wizzy 12 much, so I sold it to a friend who plays piano. They're both good cabs, but I prefer the Wizzy M.

i started with a clarus and MLine and love it. then bought an original wizzy 12 to stack with mline and my DB750 for electric gigs...the original 12 is great but not as good at loud volumes......

At last night's blues gig, I used the pair of regular Wizzy 12 cabs, powered by a Clarus amp. This group has drums, guitar and harmonica, plus vocals. I doubled on EUB and electric bass.

The rig easily had enough volume, to the point where I was asked to turn down so I wouldn't bleed into the house beyond the PA. My BugBass had the HPF/pre ahead of the Clarus, since I find that the on-board HPF of the Clarus loses some clarity and I didn't really want to use the HPF with the electric bass.

The sound was nicely defined, with clear highs and upper mids, yet nothing harsh on the top end. I ran the Clarus flat but really could have used a little more low end on the electric bass.

Conclusion? The pair of Wizzy 12 cabs works well and has more definition than the 410 cab I usually use in this situation. In this situation, a single Wizzy 12 would have been lost in the rumble of the drums.
