SWR 220 on the way

I just picked up an SWR St-220 from a TB'er. I'm wondering if anyone on here has played much DB through one. Just looking for experiences, good cabs, room sizes etcetera.

I've read Joe Atlanta's thread here abaout pairing it with a wizzy:

SWR st220+Wz12:new life for an old dog

Yes, I've got one - works very well with a good clean sound (don't use the enhance control). Be careful not to boost really low frequencies too much. By todays standards its underpowered so it would be worth trying a 4ohm cab (EA wizzy?).

Cool. Agreed on the LF advice.

I'd love a wizzy-- an M line just came up f/s on the slab side. But I think my current cab money will be going to a 212 for electric.

What pickups have you run with it? Any luck running a piezo directly in?

The upper input (labeled as passive in the ST220 manual) at 800ohm impedance is not ideal, but works ok for piezos and you should be able to get a good sound with it.

BTW, because of the permanent rack ears, it's hard to find a lightweight bag that fits the amp. I got a Rok Sak that fits mine, but no one seems to carry that line any more. The World Tour bags come in a variety of sizes, including one that's about perfect for the ST220.

For a bag, I'm using a Gator 3-space (to allow ventilation) with an SM-400...should be the same size of amp. The bag is lightweight and has a nice pocket for cords on the outside, plus comfortable carrying handles and a shoulder strap. The street price is about $65.
