SWR Workingman's 15 with Fishman pickups - what to expect?

I found it for a killer price on cragislist. I haven't checked it out yet, but from what I understand the pre-amp is definitely necessary on them.

It's 70lbs and 160w. Is that more than I'll ever need? I'm not gigging yet, and will hopefully have an electric again, but I want to focus on my upright anyways.

Is it worth my time to check it out? I want to get in a band or two, and plugging in will help my chances with anything more than just an acoustic trio.

70lbs! 160W! my goodness...

There are better options out there. Until you actually need something, hold off on buying and check out options. Look at micro-heads and light cabs that work well for both double bass and electric bass.

I had one. It wasn't the best amp on the planet for DB, and it was more than I'd want to tote to a gig along with a bass (especially in a sedan!) but it wasn't bad.

I have lots of experience with this amp. It is functional for double bass, but there are better choices, depending on what you're looking for. It's big and heavy, as you already know (but I'm not sure if it's really 70lbs?). Outboard eq would be helpful with double bass, and then you're spending more $$$. What is the "killer price"?

Also, I have found, and it seems to be a general opinion here, that 15" speakers just don't work well for DB. I would look for something with a 12" or even better, a 10" or 210.

15" speakers work fine in the right cabinet, IMO.
