UL 110 vs. CXL 110

Could anyone make a comparison between these two cabs?
Thanks in advance.

For starters, the Euphonic Audio CxL-110 is a lot heavier than the Epifani UL-110, mainly because the CxL-110 uses a woofer with a very large 90 oz. ceramic magnet, while the UL-110 uses a woofer with a lightweight neodymium magnet. The CxL-110 is rated as being 4 dB more sensitive than the UL-110 -- 103 dB vs. 99 dB, which is a significant difference. The CxL-110 has been discontinued for some time and is only available on the used market, while the UL-110 is a current product available new with a warranty. Used EA CxL-110's seem to go for around $300, while the UL-110 sells new for about 50% more.

To me, these two cabs sound rather different, although which one is better is subjective. I just found them to sound different from each other. I personally like Euphonic Audio speakers, while several people here really like the UL-110. Take your choice.

You might want to take a look at the 1x10/1x8 shootout on Tom Bowlus' web site. He has a good subjective review of the CxL-110 and UL-110 plus several others. http://bowlusblog.blogspot.com/2005/...-shootout.html

To add to the mix - I don't see it listed on EA's web site yet, but Bob G. is taking preorders now for the new Wizzy 10.

Well, both EA and Epifani had new 1x10's at NAMM. Epifani has new drivers in all their UL series cabs, and while I did not get to hear the UL-110, from what I heard of the UL-410, UL-310, UL-210 and UL-115, they may be even better!

And yes, EA's new Wizzy 10 is flat out amazing. It sounds a lot like a louder VL-108 to me, and when I mentioned this to John Dong, he smiled and said that it is a VL-108 replacement.

Tom can you say what's different about the new UL-110 apart from the drivers?

I think that is the only change, though perhaps the crossover would be different, as well?

Not sure...

Wizzy 10 & AI Clarus head

Which version of the Wizzy 10 would I want to use with a Clarus head: 4 ohm or 8 ohm?

Would there be any chance of blowing out either version of the Wizzy with the Clarus?

Thnx.

The four ohm version would receive more power from the Clarus than an eight ohm version. Normal and reasonable use shouldn't cause any problems.

Some other 10s

Anybody got experience/opinion regarding Raezor's Edge Bass 10 (or Bass 12) or Leonardo Bass 10? How do these compare with Wizzy? Or David Eden? Or Bag End?

I don't expect to find an objective side-by-side evaluation of every cabinet out there, but some one must have seen or heard these things. I'd like to know what you think.

Realist on the German, Fishman on the Czech, Clarus amp. Currently using a full range floor monitor speaker which gets the job done.

Not that I know of since the updates posted on the last page of this thread.

There was some news at NAMM in January in Anaheim. Not sure what's happened since. They are probably busy building Micros and Wizzy 10s.

I thought the new wizzy 10 was only available in 4 ohm. Will there be an 8 ohm version as well?

That 10" wizzy looks like a good cab, but how is the bottom end?
I'm hoping it's impressive for one so small.
If they made a combo the same size, that would be ideal, any hints about the possibilty of that Bob?

When I tilt a cab with an amp on top it slides off or even when I don't tilt it my amp likes to dance dangerously near the edge of the cab if I dont keep an eye on it. If I put my amp on the floor somone kicks it or spills beer on it. I think I should buy a combo!
cheers Quee

or you get a small strip of wood and 2 small screws attached to the top of your cab, like a ridge, to prevent the amp sliding off and save big buck$$
