Underwood+fdeck+Bose = :)

Very enjoyable gig last night. Club owner requested LOW volume, which my band is usually able to do for a set or two and then all hell breaks loose.

Sometimes I use a Realist right into a Bose L1 PA, but it's hit or miss on whether it sounds really good. Last night, I used an Underwood into an fdeck preamp and then into the Bose. Much, much better. The Bose didn't have the Underwood setting, so I used the Realist one.

The low notes weren't as boomy and the high notes weren't lost, which has happened with the Realist. I believe it's the first time I've played through the Bose with Velvet Animas on my bass instead of Heliocore Hybrids, which may have made some difference, too.

The best part of last night was slapping. The setup yielded a very nice 'thwack', and I found myself slapping on tunes that I normally wouldn't...and it sounded hip.

Of course, before the third set (with the place packed and the owner already telling us the sound was perfect) my singer goes out and gets his harmonica amp out of his car cause he says he can't hear himself through the Bose. The crowd soon thins and the guitarist, drummer and I draw numbers to see who gets to kick the singer's ass that night. I lost, but my sound won.

Linear Arrays require some agreement

Jump Cat.

I've never played through a L1. But my experience playing in groups that have the is that if there isn't some kind of agreement between the folks using them then some one always plays the "it's to hard for me to hear' card and defeats the whole concept of using that kind of system. It's unfortunate that has to happen. How many bass bins were you using? That seems to make all the difference.

Ric, what are "bins"? Are those the Bose subs? If so, just one.
