Underwood Jack repacement?

I have an old Underwood pickup and it's gotten to the point where a 1/4" plug won't stay securely connected inside the jack. Is there anything inside that cylinder on an Underwood pickup other than a 1/4" input jack? Is there any problem with simply cutting the lead wire and connecting it to a new jack?

Thanks!

Nope, use a Switchcraft jack and you'll be very happy!

It ends up costing a bit more, but you can go the Fishman website and order the 1/4" jack that comes with the Full Circle pickup. This is the one that mounts between two strings, rather than attached to the tailpiece. This jack has a female RCA jack on the back (pickup) end. Solder a male RCA jack on the Underwood and you've got a system that can very easily be attached and removed.

Thanks Bryan, that's a good idea using a Fishman jack, but I have already fixed it using a regular one I never knew what that housing on an Underwood consisted of, but all it is is a piece of rubber tubing with the jack inside, and the Underwood label wrapped around it. So I guess if you like to just use one of the elements, you could actually make two pickups.
