Underwood "Trick"

I've made the switch to a BassBax, but still use an Underwood on my plywood bass.

I have found that the Underwood pickup gives a much more pleasant (and full) tone if you only use one of the two pickups. It seems like there is less midrange cancellation.

Anyone else have this experience?

I use just the bass element, and everyone that i know just uses one element too... even if some volume is lost on the G string,it sounds more "woody" and less piezzo sounding.

I recently sold my Underwood to Sam Sherry, but I too prefered the sound with the just E string side element installed. Sometimes I'd use both when I needed a little more punch, but often I found the sound too "honky". I'm happy with my switch to a Realist and I've just ordered a Bass Max so I can have some other options.
