The Underwood went belly-up My trusty old Underwood that has seen at least 25 years of use is dead in the water. Zero signal. Checked the leads...nada. I just ordered a replacement from Lemur...on sale for 157.00. Does ANYONE here have a newer Underwood? Does it sound like an older one? Pardon my iggerince/stoopidty (;))...I haven't used a newer Underwood. Anyone? BTW...as I type this, my 12 year old son is up at 7:50 am China time working on scales, pizz and arco on his new DB. The kid has GREAT tone and intonation! Yippee! Now, maybe I won't have to worry about paying for college! :D I got him his first bass, and he's INSATIABLE! At least 3 hours a day! So proud! Back to my question...anyone have any experience with a new Underwood? I LOVE my sound, and don't want to go through the "pickup 2-step" again, re-hunting for my sound! Help, my TB brethren? |
I have 3 Underwoods, the oldest being 30+ years. They do sound different. Different piezo materials? Dunno, but all are good sounding, and have the distinctive UW sound. |
I guess the cable lost one connection to the first piezo after the plug or there is a short somewhere. Could also happen inside the plug or the cable itself might be broken somewhere. I got that twice with a Shadow SH-950 bridge wing pickup (shielding connection was broken at the piezo element) and it was no problem to resolder it. |
